FREE GUIDED WALKS
The author guides for free in all parts of the British Isles (UK and Ireland). Feel free to contact if you are interested. There is a section called Future Plans which gives an indication of forthcoming trips. There are no catches as you would expect from a shady company who hit you with expensive add-ons but there are some conditions outlined below:
-
Walks needing ropes are not led.
-
No insurance is provided, you walk entirely at your own risk and you, alone, are responsible for taking the decision as to whether the walk is within your fitness and technical expertise range and you are able to keep up a reasonable pace.
-
You must be properly equipped for the walk including relevant maps.
-
No one under the age of 18 is accepted unless supervised by a responsible adult who is known to them.
-
The author has to be in the area at the time. He won't travel long distances for you. Given enough notice, the author may choose to be in your chosen walk area if it fits in with his plans.
-
The walk and route has to be of interest to the author.
-
Routes involving some cycling will be considered as the author does cycle in sometimes to avoid long approaches on foot but only proper tracks are used.
-
The author has little interest in the so called National 3 Peaks challenge where the aim is to reach the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours. Far too much damage has been caused to footpaths, too much disruption caused to local roads and residents and the routes are the least attractive on these mountains. Many do this for charity but that does not make it OK to damage paths or disrupt local life. Some minibuses even block the Mountain Rescue access! The author would only be interested in small parties but much advance discussion would be required. The author has not actually done this challenge in one go as it is not very appealing but has walked all the routes and driven all the roads piecemeal and could do it in about 21 hours without excessive rushing.
