Peaks

Introduction

This is a very straightforward walk although it does climb to nearly 400 m. Most of it is on a good forestry track which could easily be cycled. A well made path takes one from the track to the hill. There are good views across Glen Nevis to Meall an t-Suidhe and Ben Nevis. Unfortunately, none of the ancient hill fort remains for non-expert archaeologists although there is a useful information board with a reconstruction picture at the point where the path leaves the track. The route given is not the shortest but, in 2018, much tree felling was taking place which this route avoids.

Route

(1) Walk up the tarmac road to the forestry houses. Behind the houses is the gate and track leading to the lower forestry track where one turns right then left at a reverse fork further on. The upper track is now followed. After a very wide bend, reach the sign post and information board where the path to the hill leaves the track. Follow the path, for some distance, to the summit where there is no cairn but this is Dun Deardail Hill Fort, c 390 m.

(2) Retrace the outward route.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 10th October, 2018.
