Falls of Leny from S end of Loch Lubnaig & from Leny Woods Car Park

Start/Finish

S end of Loch Lubnaig. Leave A84 Strathyre to Callander road at S end of Loch Lubnaig and cross the obvious bridge over the river flowing out of the loch. This is at NN 586 092. Once across bridge, turn left and drive down a short track to the car park.

For the Leny Woods car park, return to the A84 and head south, towards Callander, to soon reach the well signed entrance for the Leny Woods car park.

Introduction

This walk is unusual in that it has two parts and two starting points as described above. The Falls of Leny are on the River Teith which much further on becomes the River Forth. After rain, extra care is needed as the river is very fast flowing and will easily sweep a person away.

Route

(1) Walk out of the bottom of the Ben Ledi car park and follow the cycle track towards Callander. Reach a low concrete block where the cycle track is left behind and a path goes off to the left. Follow the path which passes rapids before passing the falls. It is possible to continue on the path for some distance until it ends by descending to the water. Retrace back to the car park.

(2) From the Leny woods car park, walk north on the busy main road. You can just about walk on the verge. At the first “Reduce Speed Now” sign, drop down left onto the obvious path below. Follow this by a fence to reach excellent viewpoints for the falls – much better than from the west bank. It is possible to follow the path further but it means climbing over a fence below a terraced wall below the road after which an easy grassy ramp can be followed up to the road, otherwise retrace back to the car park.
