Meall nan Eun, c 850 m, NN 685 625.    OS sheet 42.

Introduction

This Corbett is well placed for views of the Ben Lawers range, Schiehallion and other hills around Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel as well as the Drumochter hills to the N.

Route

(1) Cross the road and go through the high metal gate. Follow a grassy track over a low hill to a corrugated iron shed ( not seen from the parking space but visible when driving from Trinafour). Go past the hut and through the obvious metal gate above. Pick a way directly ahead, roughly WNW up the steep, but easy, hillside aiming for the obvious crag to the right of two trees. Continue up, trending NW on less steep ground to reach Loch na Caillich. From there, ascend roughly WSW to the flattish top of Meall nan Eun, c 850 m which has a small cairn. Follow the well defined ridge SW descending slightly to a shallow bealach from where one climbs S, on a faint footpath, to reach the trig point and large cairn which is the summit of Beinn a’ Chuallaich, 892 m.

(2) Retrace to the bealach then descend roughly ESE down and across the grassy corrie, crossing a broken wall en route, to reach the hut and the start.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 1stNovember, 2010, on 10th October, 2018 and about 20 years earlier.

(b) In thick weather, the broken wall can be followed back to the forest SW of the hut.
