Ben Rinnes

Start/Finish

Minor road from B9009, 5 km S of Dufftown, to Milltown of Edinville. Park in the obvious car park on the left about 600 m up this road.

Distance/Time

7 km      Approx 2½ hours

Peaks

Ben Rinnes, 840 m, NJ 255 355.      OS sheet 28.

Introduction

A distinctive peak in the heart of distillery country. Its short ascent leaves plenty of time for a few drams!

Route

(1) Go through the gate on the left to join the obvious track heading up Ben Rinnes. The track zig-zags up Round Hill then levels off before climbing gently up Roy’s Hill. It levels off again before climbing Black Banks then zig-zags up the E ridge to the grassy summit of Ben Rinnes, 840 m, where there are several rocky outcrops. The trig point is on one of these but the highest point seems to be on another rock about 3 m W.

(2) Return by the same route and head for the nearest distillery!

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 13th November, 2009.
