B9119, 3 km NE of Tarland. Park at the entrance to the private road going to Petts Farm at NO 500 057. Do not try to park up the private road at the farm as this is not appreciated. Parking on the public road only adds 15 minutes walking to the day.

Distance/Time

10 km      Approx 3 hours

Peaks

Presendye, 620 m, NO 490 089.      OS Sheet 37.

Introduction

An easy ascent on tracks and gentle slopes. Presendye is an excellent view point for Lochnagar, Mount Keen and an arc of peaks to the north but Morvern to the SW dominates. There is a Camping and Caravanning Club site in Tarland which is a good base for these hills. This is a relatively safe hill to climb in winter conditions as there are no dangerously steep or rocky sections.

Route

(1) Walk up the private road to the farm and continue on the track alongside the thin strip of woodland. At the first fork, go left: waymarked “Alternative Route”. This track can be followed roughly N then E to join the main track higher up going WNW then N. It is possible to leave this lower track after a few hundred metres and pick your way N up spacious forest to join a track coming from the E which joins the main track at another way mark. Continue on the main track which rises gently as it turns N then dips slightly to leave the forest. Leave the track at any suitable point to strike NW to W for the summit. Ascend gentle slopes to reach the large cairn and trig point of Presendye, 620 m.

(2) Return by the same route.
