Peaks

Beinn Resipol, 845 m, NM 766 654.     OS sheet 40.

Introduction

Beinn Resipol is a fine peak with excellent views in all directions on a clear day. Rum, Eigg, Mull and Skye dominate the seascape whilst the Loch Linnhe, Loch Shiel and Ardgour hills dominate the landscape. This is the usual route from Resipole caravan site but it is more boggy than the eastern approach. This route is very straight forward on a clear day but much care is needed in mist, especially in descent where a minor navigational error from the summit could lead to one descending into the wrong glen.

Route

(1) Take the path into the wood behind reception and follow it left until two old gate posts are reached at a path junction. Go right and soon reach a marker post which takes one across a minor stream then on to a good path. Follow this path which, before too long, follows the S side of the Allt Mhic Chiarain, the burn flowing into Resipole. The path passes through pleasant woodland, often high above the burn, but is quite boggy in places. Once out of the woodland, the path continues following the burn with a proliferation of boggy patches. When the stream junction at NM 758 653 is reached, there are several alternative routes. The first, and most direct, is to climb, almost due E, up the W ridge to the summit. The second is to follow the left fork of the burn on a faint path to the next burn junction where the path continues between the two burns. Climb the grassy slope ahead until it almost levels off then follow a faint path which goes off to the right and finishes up a grassy ramp just below the summit. The summit is on the right of this ramp. The third alternative is to continue on the grassy slope after it has almost levelled off until its highest point is reached then bear right up easy slopes to join the E ridge which can be followed W, on a path, to the summit. The summitof Beinn Resipol, 845 m, is unmistakeable as it has a huge cairn with the remains of an old circular trig point nearby.

(2) Return by the same route being especially careful in mist when leaving the summit.
