Introduction

This is a very short walk, ideal for a mid-winter's day. It offers good views on clear days of the Helvellyn range, the Skiddaw and Blencathra range and the hills across Ullswater.

Route

(1) Cross the road and walk a few metres to the right of the solar panels to reach a gate and stile. Go through and follow the path, boggy at first, directly uphill. This is moderately steep and can be slippery in wet weather. Reach a contouring path and go left then soon after go right on a well used path. Follow this to the stone trig point which marks the summit of Little Mell Fell, 505 m.

(2) To descend, take the path going roughly W and follow it down, almost to a gate in a fence. Do not go through the gate or cross the fence but follow a contouring path which leads back to the top of the initial steep section and then back to the car.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 11th November, 2013.
