Introduction

This is a very pleasant walk on good paths which offers very good views in all directions. The ascent route is fairly gentle but the descent is steeper and can be greasy after rain. Navigation is straight forward even in mist.

Route

(1) From Hope car park, walk E (towards Bamford) until Edale Road is reached. Turn left up the road and walk up it up for about 500 m (just past the school on the left) then fork right down a lesser road. Follow this, passing under a railway bridge, to a T junction. Go left (right is to Twitchill Farm) and follow the road to The Coach House. A path goes down the right hand side of the house to a small gate which gives access to a path. Follow this path to Fullwood Stile Farm then continue in the same direction on a track. Follow the track to a gate. Just after this, a path forks right, climbing gently. Follow this path up. Just before the trees are reached, the path joins a very obvious track which goes SSE, along an almost flat crest, for about 1 km before turning E. After some more level walking, a short ascent, offering a choice of routes, leads up the trig point which marks the summit of Winhill Pike, 462 m.

(2) Retrace down to the level crest. Retrace a little further then go through a small gate on the left and follow the narrow path down SW to Twitchill Farm then follow the tarmac road back to the railway bridge walked under on the outward route. Retrace back to the start.
