Ben Gulabin from near Spittal of Glenshee

Ben Gulabin from near Spittal of Glenshee

Start/Finish

About one mile north of the Spittal of Glenshee on the A93 between Perth and Braemar. There is a rough lay by on the left. About 200 m further is a metal gate and the start of a track.

Distance/Time

5 km.    About 2 – 3 hours.

Peaks

Ben Gulabin, 806 m, NO 101 722.    OS sheet 43.

Introduction

Ben Gulabin is the prominent hill overlooking the Spittal of Glenshee. There is a track/path all the way to the summit. On a clear day, there are good views to the pointed peak of Carn Bhinnein, Carn a' Gheoidh, The Cairnwell, Creag Leacach and Glas Maol.

Route

(1) Go through the gate and follow the track. When the track almost levels out, look for a rougher track going off left. This descends a little to a short boggy hollow before rising up steeply. Follow the track up. Continue when the angle eases and the track drifts more to the south. The cairn sits on a small outcrop and marks the summit of Ben Gulabin, 806 m.

(2) Return by the outward route.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 1st September, 2016, and about 12 years earlier.
