Introduction

Uisgnaval Mor sits behind Clisham and in fron of Oreval and Tiorga Mor so, on a clear day, the views are excellent. This approach takes one up its long ridge although much rough ground has to be crossed to get to its foot! Navigation can be tricky in mist especially lower down when trying to find the foot of this ridge.

Route

(1) Walk back along the road until a rough gate gives access to a fenced off grassy area. Follow the fence, up the glen, until you reach a corner. You will need to step over the fence to get out of the enclosure. Then head almost straight up, no path, taking care not to drift too far left or you could end up on the ridge to Uisgnaval Beag instead. Gain the flatter ground around Braigh an Fhais then over featureless ground to Creag na Spereig. From here, head NE for the foot of the S ridge and follow it up. The ridge is fairly well defined and a path soon appears on the left side. It narrows high up but there are no difficulties then it broadens again before turning NW for the final few hundred metres to the large cairn which is the summit of Uisgnaval Mor, 729 m. The top of a gully is easily passed just before the summit.

(2) Descend by the ascent route.

Notes

(a) This walk took place on 22nd April, 2018.

(b) Uisgnaval Mor was previously climbed by the same route about 12 years earlier.
